Thompson Planning was established in 2014 with the aim of providing good quality, professional Town and Country Planning advice and guidance to all.

After ten years working in the industry it became evident that Planning Consultants were only usually available to those seeking large scale developments and with a broad portfolio of land and property investments. I had seen this result in many a missed opportunity for homeowners and niche developers and it is my aim to redress this imbalance.

I have experience working for Local Authorities and the private sector for primarily large scale house builders. I have experience working within London and the wider south-east. My experience is unique having worked for developers submitting planning applications and worked for Council’s assessing planning applications. This provides me with invaluable insight into how to best approach a development and what methods are most likely to be successful.

I also have significant experience submitting and defending planning appeals. I have successfully represented Local Authorities, developers and homeowners. I am able to undertake written representations, hearing and public inquiry appeals.

Despite my significant development control experience, I also have considerable policy experience as well. Previously having written evidence based studies on behalf of the Local Authority to underpin the Local Plan. I have carried out many public consultation exercises and objective led workshops. I also have experience in providing site promotional material for developers and in the drafting of Village Design Statements the predecessor to Village Plans.

It is often remarked how I bring a fresh approach to development planning, both in terms of my robust supporting information and my application strategy.

I provide advice across the development spectrum from home extensions, to new commercial floor space and new residential developments. Explaining the differing planning processes and exploring your individual needs, I develop site options on your behalf and assist in maximising the potential of your property. I am known for my no nonsense approach. I am a Chartered Town Planner and take associated responsibilities very seriously, providing only honest, upfront advice as soon as possible. If I can foresee problems with a development, I will flag these to clients at the soonest opportunity to allow the client to make informed and realistic decisions.

I am also able to assist individuals when a neighbouring planning application is submitted. I am often instructed to provide a strong case for an objection. Many people often make the mistake of failing to comment on a development that raises concerns, or commenting on grounds that carry little or no weight. I provide clients with objection letters that represent their concerns, but also that raise issues based on sound policies adopted in the relevant Council area. These issues stand the most chance of preventing undesirable development.
